Nanaimo Bars

Nanaimo Bars are a dessert known for their luscious layers and delectable flavors. Whether you’re a baker or new, to the world of baking creating Nanaimo Bars is an endeavor that guarantees a treat that everyone will savor.Ingredients

For the Base;
1/2 cup (115g) of melted unsalted butter
1/4 cup (50g) of granulated sugar
1/3 cup (30g) of cocoa powder
1 beaten egg
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
2 cups (200g) of graham cracker crumbs
1 cup (85g) of sweetened shredded coconut
1/2 cup (60g) of chopped nuts, such, as walnuts or almonds

For the Middle Layer;
1/2 cup (115g) of unsalted butter
2 cups (250g) of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of vanilla custard powder
2 tablespoons of milk

For the Top Layer;
4 ounces (115g) of semi sweet chocolate
2 tablespoons (30g) of unsalted butter

Instructions

Step 1; Prepare the Base
In a bowl of size mix together the butter, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, beaten egg and vanilla extract.
2. Stir in the graham cracker crumbs, shredded and chopped nuts until they are well combined.
3. Firmly press this mixture into the bottom of a 9×9 inch (23x23cm) baking pan that has been greased.
4. Put the pan in the refrigerator while you prepare the layer.

Step 2; Make the Middle Layer
1. In another bowl beat together the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla custard powder and milk until you have an creamy mixture.
2. Evenly spread this layer with a custard flavor, over the chilled base.

Step 3; Prepare the Chocolate Topping
1. Take a microwave bowl. Combine semi sweet chocolate, with butter.
2. Microwave it in intervals of 20 seconds while stirring each time until you achieve an glossy mixture.
3. Pour this melted chocolate evenly over the layer.

Step 4; Allow to Settle and Serve
1.Put the pan back, in the fridge for a minimum of two hours. Until the bars become solid.
2. After they have hardened, slice them into squares or bars according to your preference.
